40 Series Long Range Fuel Tank
Here is another extremely rare item... a factory long range fuel tank. This is most definitely not your average
military disposal shop jerry can. This is the genuine article! I came across this example in New Zealand, but
someone had beaten me to the punch!!! It was already sold by the time I got there. I scanned the diagram
from my Toyota parts manual to demonstrate how the tank was attached. It uses a modified spare tyre
carrier. If you had been in the market for a new Land Cruiser in, say 1982, you could have ordered this as
an option. On the Troop Carriers it would have been fitted on the left side. If it happened to be a short or
mid wheel based Cruiser you were ordering, then the spare tyre would have been mounted on the right
side. I wish I had been a little quicker!! In all the years I have been collecting Cruisers, I have only seen one
other example and that was in the Philippines. So keep an eye out for these little gems next time you are
out wandering plant Earth.
