Japanese Fire Trucks
As a kid I was fascinated with fire trucks and this really hasn't diminished as the years have past.
I'm not sure whether it is the shiny red paint, the gleaming chrome or the flashing lights and
sirens... I just like them, full stop. I've been told and have read many times that I am not alone in
this, so for all those kids, whatever their age, here are some really cool Land Cruiser fire trucks
which I have seen at auction in Japan over the years. Enjoy!
This is a 1958 FJ24F fire truck which was auctioned in Japan recently. I had seriously considered
bidding on this little gem, but with the move happening, it wasn't possible. Can you imagine
having this beauty in your Cruiser collection? Pure Magic!!
Here we have a 1978 FJ56F single cab fire truck. With no doors and a canvas top, it would have
been interesting to say the least in the winter time. I have seen them with a small canvas door as
well, but still not much protection from the weather.
This is the "four door" version of the FJ56F. The upper two photos are of a 1977 model, but I'm
not certain of the vintage of the other Cruiser. These FJ56's are just too cool!!
I tried to bid on this Cruiser when it came to auction, but I was still new to the Japanese auction
system and so could not actually lodge a bid. Some lucky individual now has this awesome
Cruiser in their collection. It's a late model 1982 BJ44, with the factory metal rear flares. It also has
the PTO winch and air conditioning fitted.
These are FJ61F models. It's interesting to
see the hardtop versus soft top
arrangement. Again, these were found at
auction, but I am unsure of the final bid
price. I'm pretty sure that if they didn't end
up with a collector, they will still be
earning their keep with a fire service
somewhere. I know that the Fire
Department of Pohnpei, Federated States
of Micronesia has several ex-Japanese fire
trucks. No Land Crusiers though, at least
not during my visit several years ago.
